Make lists and label your boxes
Make a simple list of what each box contains and label each box according to which room it is destined for at your new place – you will be glad you took the time to do this once it comes to unpacking.
Don’t Overfill
Our guys are strong and it’s tempting to overfill boxes and bags, but if you get too carried away it can add unnecessary time to your move as two men will be needed to lift each box and there is the chance that the bottom will fall out. As a rule books should be packed into smaller boxes and clothes, bedding etc into larger ones.
Don’t Under fill
Under filling boxes can mean they may collapse when stacked, try to distribute things evenly.
Packing Materials and Boxes
Always use good, strong boxes that have been securely taped. Wrap any delicate items in acid-free tissue paper, bubble wrap and/or packing peanuts. We can provide everything you need to pack up from boxes to mattress covers and everything else in between. Designate an area by your front door for packed boxes, this will give you more space to work. Pack all your non-essential items first, pack important documents together in one box to ensure they don’t get lost. Wardrobe boxes are ideal to save you ironing time and furniture covers will ensure nothing gets marked.
Packing Service
Take advantage of our professional packing service to take the hassle out of your move. Our fully trained packers will come in and pack up your home according to your requirements. Clothing can be packed in wardrobe cartons and fragile items will be wrapped in acid-free tissue paper or bubble wrap. We can securely wrap your precious furniture and paintings and pack up all your personal belongings into high quality professional removal boxes. All boxes will be labelled for your convenience – you can just sit back and relax while the hardest part is done for you!
Arranging Parking Permits
If required we can arrange your parking permits for you. Most councils need at least a week advance notice. Permits will save you money and time in the long run, carrying furniture down the road when you are unable to park outside a property can become very time consuming and costly. A pre-booked permit ensures you are guaranteed a space outside your home on the day of your move.
Utilities and change of address
Don’t forget to inform your gas, electric, water and telephone companies of your change of address. Its best to let them know at least a week in advance, this gives them time to do a meter reading. You should also inform your bank, building society and credit card companies. It may be a good idea to get your mail redirected for a small fee. Complete section 1 on your driving licence and send it to DVLC, Swansea. Contact TV Licensing in order to transfer your licence to your new address, by calling 0870 242 3349 or visiting www.tvlicensing.co.uk/moving.
Pets and Children
Moving can be a stressful time and planning ahead can make all the difference. It may be best to arrange for friends or family or a babysitter to mind your children on the day. Pets can also feel the strain and its best to leave them with someone trusted or book them in at a reputable kennels.
The Day before the move
Pack a box with everything you might need for the first day at your new home. Tea/coffee, milk, bread, snacks. Your nightclothes and a change of clothes. A screwdriver, Alan key, pliers, candles, tissues, light bulbs, matches, some cash and a list of important telephone numbers and also any prescription medication. You can even buy readymade Moving day survival kits like the one
here.
The Day of the move
Settle your children with a carer or if they will be staying during the move settle them in one room with something to keep them occupied. Ensure you have tea, milk and biscuits handy. Don’t forget the keys to your new home – keep them with you so they don’t accidentally get packed up. Strip the beds and put the linen in a box that will travel with you so you don’t have to search for it on the first night in your new home. Once everything is loaded onto the removal vehicle have a walk round your home to make sure nothing has been left behind in error.
